Kelleher House Project
16 story building, 4 corner stacks, a total of 56 decks – Seattle, WA
Kelleher House was challenging on multiple levels. The engineering was difficult as the curb was not considered a structural element of the building. The slab underneath the curb was of limited depth. Therefore an “L” bracket design was the only option available to replace the decaying steel railings. Our partners at L120 and our designers were able to prove to PET that the “L” shaped design presented very limited pull out forces on the fasteners as most of the force applied to the fasteners with this type of plate design is a shear force. The radius made the design and fabrication more complex. Normal extrusions and processes could not be utilized. The installation was from swing stages and presented challenges for the installation team. Drilling through 10″ of concrete, dust control and most importantly safety.
